elevated lipase can either be from fat with visible problems or pancrease. If the amylase is also elevated, then pancreas. Period. There can be many reasons to have pancreas irritation these include viral disease (generally very short duration) or many medications. It can be gallstones, tumor or most likely with chronic elevation, scarring and poor drainage of the pancreas from previous inflammations. First, not eating anything for at least a week to see if the pancreas calms down. Then, substituting other sources of pancreatic enzyme (pill) for what the pancreas puts out might also be helpful.
