How Can Chronic Pancreatitis Be Treated?

Are there any other prescription meds for chronic pancreatitis besides zenpep and cream! Those are too expensive, and my doctor is prescribing them. Zenpap is almost $500 per month and Cremona is $225 per month. I m retired. Do I have to pay for the answer?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Chronic pancreatitis patients may deficit for enzymes like pancreatic lipase or amylase etc. also deficiency of absorption of fat soluble vitamins and calcium levels. Few cases may develop type 2 Diabetes milletus. Use capsule contains pancreatic enzymes along with food. They may be costly but choose alternate medication. Use capsule Creon or pancreaflat or pareaze etc. Take vit D and calcium supplements, avoid spicy food and alcohol. Avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
