Hi Doctor, My child age is 3.6 years. She is having cold and cough from this morning I see that she is having phlem and yellowish mocus from her nose. Can I give her syrup of cetirizine ydrochloride & Ambroxol Hydrochloride Fifty 50? or Noxril Ambroxol Hcl,Guaiphenesin & Levosalbutamol Syrup. please let me what can be best for her. thanks in advance !
I am sorry for the cold your 3.6 year old child is having.
Cetirizine hydrochloride is an antihistamine, will help with nasal congestion. Ambroxol hydrochloride is a mucolytic, it will help dissolve the phlegm and clear the respiratory pathways.
While the other syrup, Levosalbutamol Sulphate Ambroxol HCL Guaiphenesin Syp. contains altogether mucolytic (ambroxol HCL), expectorant (guaiphenesin) and broncho-dilatator (levosalbutamol sulphate).
As your child is having yellow phlegm and coughing, better give the last syrup to have 3 effects altogether in one syrup. If not improved, should send to pediatrician to rule out pneuomonia or bacterial bronchitis. In this case antibiotic syrup might be prescribed.
Don't forget to apply vapour rub on her chest and upper back at night to ease her airways. Aerosoltherapy can help together with using saline nasal spray.
Wish fast recovery.
