Hii. My son aged 3 years 9 months weighing 12.5 KGS showed signs of severe cold from today morning. Fever was 99 but shot up to 102, arm temperature. He is on calpol 7.5 ml 5 hrly.. please advise if I can give metal now since fever is again nearing 102..

Fever and ARI(Acute respiratory tract infection) is quite common in infants and it is the most common cause hospital visits in under five age group. Most of the cases it is viral in origin and resolve completely with symptomatic treatment.In some cases we have to start antibiotics empirically.
Consult a nearby GP do the following as a first line management: 1.Give him paracetamol syrup dose of which depend on weight of the kid. 2.Tepid sponging with tap water to control body temperature. 3.Saline nasal drops if signs of nasal obstruction present. 4.Do base line investigation like CBC(Complete blood count) and urine routine. 5.If sign of infection or respiratory symptoms like fast breathing present he might require prompt antibiotic treatment.
