Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife was diagnosed with collagenous colitis and the gastroenterologist said to take 4 peptobismol tablets per day and to increase to 6 and then 8 if needed for diarrhea. Thiis seemed to work, but we moved and the GP said the pep to would block the absorption of her meds and prescribed ranitidine instead. She is having diarrhea now and I looked on line to find that ranitidine is for stomach acid (not diarrhea).Should she go back to the pepto schedule?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, she should definitely restart Pepto-Bismol according to the advice of gastroenterologist. No need to defer from doctor and medicines once you are doing better ad improving in symptoms. So stop Ranitidine and start Pepto-Bismol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
