How Can Colon Cancer Be Treated?

My 90 year old mother had colon cancer surgery 3 weeks ago. I out of 18 lymph nodes was malignant. She is being prescribed 6 months of chemo 2 days a week; every other week. Chemo will start in 2 weeks. She is barely stage 3, and has gastro troubles from radiation to her abdomen 10 years ago. I feel she should not do chemo at her age with her gastro problems as is. Please give me your opinion...her daughter Georgia Comfort YYYY@YYYY I am a 27 yr. survivor of stage 4 breast cancer, so I understand quite a bit regarding cancer treatment...but I m a musician, not a doctor. Thank you for responding. Sincerely, Georgia Comfort

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I agree with you. Chemo or radiotherapy is useless in this setting. She will not die from colon cancer very probably and even if lymph nodes with tumor is left it will need many years to grow to significant size and i dont think she will reach this. ALso, chemo has its complications and may be very dangerous for old people. I am sure that you can discusss it with her oncologist.

Wishing you good health.
