How Can Congestive Heart Failure Be Treated?

My friend had 5 valve replacements October 31, 2017. She is in the hospital now where she had a heart cath. 3 of the 5 were completely blocked 1 was 90 percent blocked which they put a stent in and the othe is 40 percent blocked. They say she s in congestive heart failure and she has only 15 percent heart capacity. She is 54 and they are telling her they want to put in a defibrillator, but wanna wait 90 days to see if some of it comes back. They say it s not possible to do another graft. Is this true? Should she get a 2 nmd opinion and what is the mortality rate for this? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

15% of the heart capacity is very low and the heart can not even tolerate another intervent even if there is a chance of it.

The defibrillator is to prevent a sudden cardiac death from malinj arrhythmias that can occur in an ischemic heart with a very low function.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
