Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Constipation Along With Diarrhea Be Treated?
My son has been constipated, tried one laxative for a few days, didn t work. Took him to his dr. He recommended miralax for 2-3 then try a suppository if nothing happens. Now he has constant diahrrea. Should I be worried? And should I still use a suppository once the diahrrea stops?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
1. Although serious side effects are rare but still in some individual, laxative can cause diarrhea or may cause levels of salts and minerals in the body to become unbalanced.
2. Make sure to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, foods high in fiber, and wholemeal foods, drink plenty of water and avoid large quantities of bran.
If symptoms get worse it is important to see a doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
