Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my daughter is of 5weeks old, not passing motion from 3 days... Not burping properly, crying a lot. But passing urine more than 6-7 times. I m giving ultra d3 (1ml) everyday. Apart from that when I gave her flatuna drops (6 drops two times/day) she vomited the milk. Please help.
Did you deliver her following a full-term pregnancy? Was her weight around 6-7 pounds? She doesn't have to burp every time. You can try burping in the middle of the feed and then again at the end for five minutes.
If she hasn't burped, put her on your shoulder and try burping again in another five minutes or so. The frequency of bowel movements in a healthy newborn is from 3-4 a day to 3 a week.
As long as her bowel movements are soft and she does not strain, it is alright to wait a bit. If you feel you must do something, you can place a rubber finger cot over your little finger and put a small amount of Vaseline on the tip.
Spread her buttocks apart and gently slide your finger through her anus up about an inch (2.5cm) and move your finger around in a circle. A minute is enough time. Remove finger and see if she produces a stool.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
