How Can Constipation In An Infant Be Treated?

Hi I have 5 and half month baby boy.. I am giving him raw banana powder porridge to him as breakfast and cerelac stage 1 wheat apple in the evening. I was forced to start solids for him as he was not drinking milk properly.but looks like he has constipation prob. He struggles a lot while passing tools and passes hard tools. Or sometimes struggles but doesn t pass tools. Also I am giving him Woodward s gripe water. Please suggest me any treatment for his constipation prob.

Thanks for contacting with your health concern and following is stepwise approach

1. Sometimes changing from liquid to solid or from breast milk to formula milk can result in constipation problem among infants since their immature intestine is unable to digest the solid food, so make an appointment with a Pediatrician for symptomwise management, till then:

. feed the baby. [ more of liquid diet, and add a little of prune juice to breast/formula milk and avoid applesauce, banana, cereals, cheese, yogurt]
. give soap stick to empty the bowels
. Gripe water: 1 tablespoon thrice daily
