How Can Cough And Breathing Difficulty Caused By Paint Fumes Be Treated?

Hi, yesterday I was spray painting my bathroom cabinet, for only about 5 maybe 10 minutes, and i didn t wear a mask, about 20 min later i start feeling shortness of breath. Today I still feel shortness of breath, not as bad as yesterday, but i still feel it, and i ve developed a small cough. A friend gave me some cough drops, and its helped a little. should I wait a couple more days?

hello, welcome to healthcaremagic.

inhalational exposure to paint for such a short duration can never lead to serious illness. so be sure its not cancer/copd/interstitial lung disease.

the most acceptable explaination with your history provided is that you are problably allergic to some of the paint content.

the best treatment advice for now would be to take an anti histaminic like levocetrizine and a cough syrup. and follow up with your doctor for further investigations.

also avoid coming in contact with the paint again.

just to be sure also get an ECHO and an ECG done to rule out cardiac cause of your breathlessness.

hope this helps. please feel free to revert back for further query.

thank you.
