How Can Cough And Chest Congestion Along With Wheezing Be Treated?

I have had a cough and congestion for about a week. I’m out of town and can’t see my PCP. When I cough it comes from way down and rattles. When i breathe out you hear a wheeze and the it makes me cough more. Been taking mucinex for a week. Not fixing the issue.

Cough and chest congestion along with wheezing seems to be due to severe upper respiratory tract infection which gets triggered by certain exaggerating factors. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take cough expectorants. Steam inhalation is very effective for you. Consult ENT specialist once without any delay. Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test and may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin or penicillin at least for 10 days along with decongestants.
