How Can Dementia And Addiction To Cigarette Smoking Be Treated?
What do you do when your loved one is obsessed with only 2 things from sun up to sun down. All she wants to do is to smoke cigarettes drink coffee. She s not interested in taking a bath, going to get a hair cut, or any of the normal daily functions. She just sleeps, smokes, and drinks coffee. She has been diagnosed with dementia. She tells the same story over and over. She doesn t remember names and who you are; but she does remember that she smokes and drinks coffee. What to do???
The detailed history with counselling is a very pivotal part of this case management, as there can be childhood trauma, PTSD or other behavior disorders responsible for the same. Treatment is multi factorial as:
- Regular counselling sessions with an expert psychologist.
- Supportive medications as per the case evaluation.
- De-addiction should be the primary concern.
- Balanced nutritious diet supplements.
- Home and relatives support is must.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
