Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Mother is 77 years old. She was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She had surgery and radiation. This last year she has been depressed and anxious about insurance and money as well as worrying about having cancer. For the last several months she has started acting differently. She used to love to shop and go places but now she doesn t want to go anywhere. She is paranoid. I live 2 hours away from her and she has hid it from me. She thinks she doesn t have insurance. She thinks someone stole her identity when she gets credit card offers or magazines. She refuses to take any anxiety or depression medicine. What can I do?
Hello, This is a very sad problem. She may be in the early stages of some sort of dementia. With those conditions, it is not uncommon for paranoia to develop. The best treatment would be for her to see a neurologist and get a diagnosis and proper treatment. I wish you the best
