How Can Depression Be Treated?

Hello, My son has been dealing with depression that may also be bi-polar he was seen today by a psychiatric dr and will not be given any meds until after another 2 appointments. is there a medication that he can take to help alleviate the depression prior to the meds from a dr. He was given medication in the past for depression

Hello,

Medications for depression are generally long term medications and is not good to be started without the prescription and follow up of a doctor. On the other hand if your son has a chance to be bipolar, some medications for depression can worsen the bipolar condition so it is important to not just start medications only for depression as it may worsen him.
