How Can Developmental Delay In A Child Be Treated?
I have a 2 year old with a developmental delay. He dose not put 2 or more words together in a sentences and even with working with speech he still does not pronounce the words that you can understand and when he is asked he will say words that you cant hear him. He also will not socialize with other children his age or a year older with out it being sister or brother. He also will not go to other family members that he sees daily. I don t think this is a normal thing because he knows the people very well and sees them daily but will still cry and hide behind me or dad.
My kid got into graduate school this week. He didn't speak til age 4. Bottom line, it's a totally individualized process to diagnose and treat and sometimes there might not be that much wrong. Hearing or vision (mild) problems can cause significant problems and things work out much better if diagnosed early. There's some very good simple tests for it. (looking into the eyes with an opthalmascope. If it's not in focus looking in, it isn't in focus looking out). Reaction to loud sounds is also a clue.
Mild autism classically presents this way and with MILD autism there is a LOT of treatment. But, it's pretty clear, there are a lot of potential causes (oh, and don't even get me started on thyroid disease. I have a patient who wasn't diagnosed despite having a thyroid that was over 3x normal size).
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
