Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 54 year old male with controlled type 2 diabetes and arthritis in my knees and left thumb. I occassionally use Icy Hot on my knees and thumb. When i do this overnight, my fasting blood sugar is 200 to 230. I follow a rigid diet and exercise program and my normal fasting sugar is 108 to 118. Have there been any studies on the relationship between Icy Hot and blood sugar?
hi sir,i appreciate your self control.let me make you clear that icy hot external application doesnt cause any rise in blood sugars.there is no known evidence or studies in this aspect.the probable cause for rise in sugars might be due to stress, inflammation.i mean to say that you might probably be using icy hot when the pain is too much which indicates increased inflammatory activity in your joints.any increase in inflammation or stress or infections lead to increase in corticosteroid secretion in blood that rise blood sugars.any way it is my speculation and not completely sure.if you arent able to deal with rise in sugars, you can have a consultation with an endocrinologist.hope my answer satisfies you.any other queries, you are welcome to write to us.i'm always ready to address your concern.thank you.take care.bye.
