Hi,

The target blood sugar for your son with type one diabetes. This is a good question, and important to know in order to control your son's diabetes.

Typically the goal blood sugar before meals would be 70-130 mg/dl, and less than 180 mg/dl after meals.

Your doctor would check his Hemoglobin A1c periodically to check his average blood sugar over the past 3 months, and this should be 7.0% or less, which would indicate his average blood sugar was about 154 mg/dl or less.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
