General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Unfortunately, kidney complications can occur with uncontrolled diabetes. It is one of the commonly known complications. If the lisinopril did not agree with you, then you should consider another type of ACE inhibitor(same drug family as lisinopril) or ARB to protect the kidney from further damage. Maintaining good blood pressure and good blood sugar control would help prevent further deterioration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
