How Can Diarrhea Be Treated?

Hello, I began having diarrhea 2 weeks ago today. My doctor ordered a stool study which showed e coli. The sample was given 4 days ago. I was taking immodium during the first week of symptoms. I was told the symptoms would resolve on their own, but I am wondering how long they will last. Is it possible that I lengthened the duration by taking the immodium?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In general, diarrhea is a condition which leads to fluid and electrolyte lose from body so the ideal treatment is to just replace it.

As you are having e coli in stool report about which you should not worry that will resolve on its own just keep hydration and use probiotics and duet like toast and apple.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
