78 year old male; history of pulmonary embolism, on warfarin, had severe pain in hip last year that affected walking. Shot helped the pain, walking still difficult; it is like legs want to go but brain not in gear. In therapy, but not improving. Extreme difficulty getting up and getting legs to move. Any ideas?
Common issues with difficulty in walking are to be electrolyte disturbances of potassium, developing atherosclerosis of large or medium size blood vessels of others. Treatment is aimed at underlying cause evaluation, correction of electrolyte imbalance if any and supportive care of nutrition.
