Hello, I accidentally swallowed a small plum seed about 3 hours ago. It still had lots of flesh on it and I could feel it lodged in my esophagus. At first I couldn t eat as the food was getting stuck but now it s feeling a bit better and I m not sure if it s still in there or just irritated. What is the worst that could happen if it is still there and I don t go to emerg tonight?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Plum seeds won’t cause and it will surely pass to stomach. Eat some solid food like banana or boiled rice. Generally the seeds will pass to the stomach and will be cleared through feces. The worst scenario is, in case if the seed stuck in the esophagus, then you need an endoscopy and removal of the particle stuck in the esophagus. This is very unlikely and won’t happen most probably.
Wishing all the best.
