Diverticulitis is an extended pouch in lumen of intestine. So whenever there is indigestion/ infection or
food intolerance (
gluten or lactose intollerance- which needs to be investigated & excluded/ diagnosed & treated. The diverticulum gets inflamed or infected to cause the symptoms. So management consists of
- Exclusion/ diagnosis, treatment & avoidance of the triggering factors. Take bland food ( No or less spices, low fat & low fiber content ).
- Avoid food found to be allergic to.
Avoid fruits with small seeds & high fibers.Banana & melon are safer fruits. Avoid onion, garlic, pepper,broccoli, cabbage or cauliflower- as they tend to produce more gas. Avoid high fat dairy products( full cream milk or ice cream). Can take fat less milk, cheese. Vegetables allowed are- sweet potato, carrot, beat,peas, pumpkin , spinach, Cooked cereals like cooked cream of wheat /refined grains ,white bread, pasta etc.
