How Can Double Vision Caused By Shingles Be Treated?
I have shingles on my face which are affecting my eye lid -diagnosed as conjunctivitis, also, have double vision in that eye, which the optometrist thinks may be do to neuropathy of the nerve that controls the movement of the eye ball. is this a common affect of shingles, and if so is there a prediction of how long the double vision should last?
virus causing shingles usually travells via trigeminal nerve(5th nerve) which is sensory to face and not motor It might affect motor nerves to eyes and might cause binocular diplopia. if you are having double vision with both eyes open then it is due to nueropathy but if it is monocular then nueropathy is ruled out. A thorough work up for diplopia is required to check which nerve is involved . After examination antiviral treatment should be started.visit ophthalmologist or neuro ophthal specialist asap. hope this helps. any further query is welcome
