General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Dry cough in cardiac patients as you with Atrial Fibrillation and Flutter could be due to:

- Stomach hyperacidity problems (gastritis/ulcer) precipitated by the use of anticoagulants (like Warfarin, Xarelto or even aspirin on long term).
- Lung problems you are facing.
- Any meds you might be using like angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors might cause persistent dry cough.

Benzonatate drug can be used as prescribed by your doctor. It can be used up to 3 times daily. So, it can take another one before going to bed but with a window period of not less than 6 hours.

Raise your head when sleeping, use two pillows instead of one only.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
