Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently working in Shanghai, China as a singer. Since arriving I have had very dry throat were I am constantly clearing it, and dry eyes when I wake up in the morning. I bought a humidifier but it has not helped, I ve also taken Claritin but it just dries me out more. During my shows I drink a minimum of 150 oz of water and suck on lozengers and my throat is still super dry..what can I do???
I am a professional singer and I know clearing my throat is worse, but it seems to not be improving
Throat dryness seems to be due to upper respiratory tract infection, acid reflex and insufficient fluid intake. I would suggest you to take steam inhalation and do warm saline gargles. Avoid cold carbonated beverages and sharp spicy food. You should take chicken soup. If symptoms keep son persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined completely as it can cause irritation and infection in throat that is lead to cough reflex and go for certain tests like blood test, throat swab test and respiratory function test. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (amoxicillin or penicillin) and nasal decongestants.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
