How Can Ear Infection And Sore Throat Be Treated?

Started with a middle ear infection for which I was given neomycin ear drops ~1month ago. The sharp pain and sore throat subsided but I still felt it was not completely healed. Went to Dr. 10 days ago as it felt like my ear was swollen. No infection or redness, hearing test showed no problem, said it was likely my sinuses and it should clear up. Ear still feels swollen and I feel light headed. Tried the nets pot, steam Afrin, not helping. Should I make appt for ENT?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms you are experiencing is suggestive of Otitis Media (middle ear infection). It can co-occur with sinusitis. You will need an antibiotic (like amoxicillin).

Please follow up with your ENT specialist to confirm the diagnosis. Meanwhile, continue steam inhalation. You can also use Otrivin nasal drops twice daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
