In the last 12 months I have been prescribed antibiotics at least twice or more. My consultant told me that I might need further treatment. What are the possible treatments for this condition? hi sir/madam,
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.

Consult a ENT Doctor and do these test:-

1. Otoscope exam.
2. Audiology exam.
3. Tympanometry.

Treatment procedures:-
Patching-
If your ear does not heal on its own, your doctor may patch the eardrum. Patching involves placing a medicated paper patch over the tear in the membrane. The patch encourages the membrane to grow back together.

Antibiotics-
Antibiotics can clear up infections that might have led to your eardrum rupture. They also protect you from developing new infections from the perforation. Your doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics or medicated eardrops. You may also be told to use both forms of medication.

Surgery-
In rare cases, surgery may be required to patch the hole in the eardrum. A surgical repair of a perforated eardrum is called Tympanoplasty. During Tympanoplasty, your surgeon takes tissue from another area of your body and grafts it onto the hole in your eardrum.

Ayurvedic treatment Procedure:-

Karna poorna-

Karna Poorna is the process of healing ear problems with warm herbal oils .Bathing the ears in warm oil is calming and protective to the nervous system .Treatment begins with a vibrant head and neck massage, followed by a gentle massage to the ears.

Then the ears are gently cleaned with cotton buds and few drops of Herbal medicated Ayurvedic oil is poured into ears. Once the cavity of the ear is completely occupied with the oil, the person is requested to rest in the position to allow the oil to get absorbed.

Ayurvedic medicines to be used:-

1. Saarivaadi vati TABLET- 1-0-1 after food.
2. Nirgundi tail- as ear drop.
3. Kshara tail- as ear drop.
4. Triphala guggulu TABLET- 1-0-1 after food.
5. Yashti madhu chooran- 1tsp with one glass of water.

Prevention tips:-
1. Keep your ear dry to prevent further infection.

2. Gently stuff your ears with cotton when you bathe to prevent water from entering the ear canal.

3. Avoid swimming until your ear heals.

4. If you get an ear infection, get it treated right away.

5. Try to avoid flying in airplanes when you have a cold or sinus infection.

6. Use earplugs, chew gum, or force a yawn to keep your ear pressure stabilized.

7. Don’t use foreign objects to clean out extra earwax.

8. Wear earplugs when you know that you’ll be exposed to a lot of noise, such as around loud machines or at concerts and construction sites.
