my mom has edema in her foot and ankle which causes her grate pain and is so bad that on her left foot she has an ulcer on her little toe that wont heel doesn t need to be amputated yet but she has already lost one leg to the hip and she is 80 years old trying to keep her pain level down but she doesn t like to take meds cant soak the foot because she has toe nail fungal we are putting iodine on her toes how can we keep her comfortable doctor said if amputees her little toes he cant guarantee that it would heel with out infection and then it would spread up the leg and she would have to have that leg amputated as well
Is there any symptoms of dyspnea or chest pain, decrease urine output or history of hypertension, diabetes. The first rule out cardiac ailment by investigating with ECG & echocardiography to ruled out Left Ventricular Dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension or restrictive heart disease & treated acc. with diuretics, ace inhibitors, etcetera. Second, ruled out diabetes by testing and,pp2bs, hba1c as there is a non-healing ulcer.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ketankumar Pandya
