How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?

Hi, this is Fred. I am 74 and my BP is around 148/92 average even though I walk about 60 minutes every day and run slowly for about an hour once a week. My diet is healthy with one cup of coffee per day. What kind of BP medicine and dosage do you recommend?

Hello,

Your concern is regarding your elevated blood pressure. It is very good that you are physically so active at 74. Let me tell you that you will need to do appropriate changes in your diet and your daily lifestyle. There are so many medicines which can be prescribed for high blood pressure.
It depends on the treating doctor what he or she decides to start with a particular drug.
Although I would have started you on Amlodipine once daily, it will be better if you see a nearby doctor as he or she will examine you before starting a blood pressure medicine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prabhash Verma
