How Can Elevated Uric Acid Levels Be Treated?

Hello, I used to have gout. About 3 years ago I made a major life style change, which resulted in my Dr. removing me from my medications. My uric acid levels remained elevated but no symptoms of gout. I know its diet caused and I avoid processed meats such as hot dogs, bologna etc. This morning right out of bed, left foot and ankle were extremely painful. I had some leftover pain medicine from a recent trigger finger surgery and took them right away. Am able to move easier and am making a shopping list with cherry juice and others known for their healing properties. Can you add anything to help me get back to work tomorrow? Thank you, Peter.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you just want to manage the pain then i would suggest you to take Naproxen once followed twice daily until pain is settled and I would advice you to get your serum uric acid levels rechecked and reconsider starting uric acid medications once you come out of acute pain.

Hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
