How Can Encephalitis Be Treated?

my 83 year old mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers but after an MRI, the doctor called and said she has encepholitis. She has an appt with a neurologist on Friday but we are hearing she may have to be hospitalized. If so for how long and is her prognosis hopeful?

Well I will not give you any sugar coated words. Encephalitis is actually swelling of the brain from a viral infection. The prgnosis of the disease is good in younger age group but in old people the prognostic factors vary. So she might have to stay for a longer period because it not only affects the brain but also the spinal cord. Hope for the best.
