Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i was recently diagnosed by a urologisty surgeon with epididymitis-orchitis.I Was prescribed a 14 day cycle of BACTRIM DS.Its been 5 days now taking 2 tablets per day and have shown NO improvement whatsoever either with pain which has worsened nor very visible swelling.I believe i need a DIFFERENT ANTIBIOTIC.WHAT is your prognosis?
You need an effective antibiotic based on culture and sensitivity tests. Bactrim DS does not appear to effective in eradicating the infection.
So, your doctor would advise urine analysis and culture and sensitivity tests. Based on the report an appropriate antibiotic like Ciprofloxacin would be prescribed for two weeks along with anti-inflammatory drugs like Diclofenac to reduce the pain and swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
