How Can Fat Necrosis In The Buttocks Be Treated?

Hi, I had a contraceptive injection that went wrong (they injected too low down and not deep enough) so the liquid never reached my muscle. Because of this I now have fat necrosis in my buttock which for the past year has been very painful. I also have occasional shooting nerve pain and my new doctors have perscribed me gabapentin tablets and I can go into 600mg a day. I was wanting to know if you can roughly tell me how long I m going to have this issue and if there is any other treatment other than taking strong tablets everyday to mask the problem. My old doctors said it will be gone within the year, it hasn t. My new doctors have said they just can t say how long as they really don t know. Am I looking at a life long injury? I ll be very grateful for your feedback as a year or pain is leaving me desperate for answers. Kind regards

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello

First of all how large is the necrosis? The treatment is removal of dead tissue and local wound care .Generally a wound that is not to large may take 4-8 weeks to heal. After the wound is closed you should wait 6-8months for the tissues to soften and mature. At that time your surgeon can perform scar revision .

Have patience

Kind regards
