Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m in the UK and desperate for any guidance or help. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and fibyromalgia which are ruining my life and pushing my depression to suicidal states. I can t stay awake for very long at all, falling asleep at random times and in the rare occurrence I manage to be awake I can t get anything done because I can t focus at all. I ve gone from getting firsts in university to not even being able to attend and do any coursework. I m close to being kicked out with 3 years down the drain and all work towards my future destroyed. The university don t help in flexibility whilst I try and find some help, and despite the doctors diagnosing me with CFS I m waiting on some sort of specialist referral which doesn t seem to ever get any closer and fobbed off by the doctor when I try to ask for any help. I ve put up with the fibyromalgia pain for 3 years now but the fatigue and focus problems are what s destroying my life at the moment. Asking the doctor for any sort of medicine hits a brick wall as they just tell me it s for adhd/narcolepsy and that s the end of the discussion. I tried purchasing modafanil online which did not alivieate the fatigue at all, and the only other lead I come across for CFS is adderall or other similar stimulants. I was under the impression that a doctor should be able to prescribe off label but I m getting no help at all so I was wondering if I could get information on what I m actually allowed to try and ask from my doctor, and if anyone has any other reccomendations for CFS treatment. (Currently on sertraline 200mg for depression)
