How Can Fatigue, Dehydration And Cramps Be Treated?

My 78 year old husband was hospitalized wit C DIFF 3+ weeks ago. He came home meds. for 10 days. He started to feel better then last Wednesday he started to feel bad again with mild symptons. He got weak and exhausted and not eating. I took him to ER on Monday (4 days ago) and he was treated for dehidration and released. He is still showing same problems including lots of cramps. What should I do now?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I suggest, he has a stool test done to know, if he has remained infectious because of C. difficile infection. The infection can can come back.Enzyme immunoassay,PCR test, stool culture are some diagnostic tests to see if there is an infection.

Meantime, he must always wash his hands thoroughly before and after eating, or doing other activities.Give him lot of fluid to substitute what he might loose with bowel discharge.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Suzana Zharri,
