How Can Fecal Impaction Be Treated?

I have a bowel impaction that is causing a lot of pain . I was told by my gp too take 4 sachets of movicol straight away and then another 4 12 hours later then 4 sachets 3 times a day for 3 days ?? Seems a lot too me but gp is scared my bowel will twist and burst. I don’t know what too do???? My stomach is incredibly swollen I look like I’m 9 months pregnant. But I’m not. A lot of pain in my right mid side. Has been confirmed with X-ray that’s where the impaction is.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Please be advised to the Movicol sachet as prescribed. If the Movicol drug fails to induce the bowel movement, then follow up with your General practitioner. You may require enema or digital disimpaction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
