How Can Fever Along With Cold And Cough In A Toddler Be Treated?

Hi My baby is 2.5 years old. We live in Pune and she has been suffering from cold and cough for the past 2 and a half weeks. Initially our local Dr. suggested cheston syrup and relent plus as there was no chest congestion but only dry cough and running nose. However after 3days use she developed severe congestion and we consulted her regular paed and he put her on Levolin and Budecord inhaler puff for the next 7 days. In next 3-4 days again there was high fever like 102 deg and she was on Keflor antibiotic for a 7 days course. However the fever never got back after that. Situation improved soon but again with a sudden change in weather there was a relapse of her cough nd cold just the next day her antibiotics course got over. There was also a mild fever of 99. 3 degrees max that day for a period of 1 hr. Now her paed has put her on omnacortil solution for 5 days( 5 ml 3 times a day). Today is her first day of the medicine. However as I see that it is a steroid wanted to check if it s safe enough in this situation and is the dose correctly prescribed. She is also taking Cetrizine syrup (1ml 2 times) Delpomont montelukast (5ml once a day) and her Levolin (2puffs 4 times )and Budecord( 2 puffs two times) inhaler puff is also on.However we have full faith in our doc but as a parent a little sceptical and worried about our babies condition. Also can this use of omnacortil solution have any negative effect in long term?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, Omnacortil if given for prolonged period can be harmful for babies. In my opinion, you should definitely rule out pneumonia in your child because fever, chest congestion, uncontrolled cough and cold are commonly seen with pneumonia. So get done chest X-ray. If chest X-ray is showing consolidation patch then it is pneumonia for sure. She may need hospitalization and Intravenous antibiotics. Don't give omnacortil syrup for more than 2 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
