How Can Fever And Cold In A Child Be Treated?

Hi , My daughter is 5 years old. She had mild fever and cold for a couple of days and we gave crocin 250 & cetzine. The third day she developed high fever. The paediatrician presribed macpod 100 & meftal P. She has vomited atleast 5 times in 24 hours. We didnt repeat the doses after vomiting. Can we give meftal P 4 ml twice a day? Should we go for blood test?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Paracetamol or Mefthal is given as per body weight- 10 to 15 mg/kg body weight per dose. Suppose your child is having a body weight of 15 kgs then she needs to take nearly 150 mg per dose. Since Crocin comes as 250 mg, you can give half dose tablet and see if fever is coming down. You can give it four times in a day. Give it after meals, not on empty stomach which may cause gastritis and vomiting. Do tepid sponging.

In case fever is persisting and there is vomiting after taking tablet orally then you go to your doctor who may put suppository tablet (per rectal) to bring down temperature. Vomiting may be because of fever. The doctor may give syrup to control vomiting or an injection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
