How Can Fever And Vomiting Be Treated?

Hello. My little brother has been on and off with a fever for the past month along with throwing up. He usually throws up in the mornings and when he runs around too much. We've brought him to the emegency room and to his primary doctor and all they said was he is running a fever. Something doesn't seem right to me. Would you have any suggestions on what could possibly wrong with him?

Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. without being able to examine him directly, I'm of the following opinion:

i. In case of vomiting with a headache and fever, rule out meningitis.
ii. most fevers in general practice are viral, but before labeling a fever as viral, one must look for [as a compulsory routine] pallor, jaundice, neck stiffness, abdomen for lier & spleen and Auscultate the chest.
iii. If there is a running epidemic e.g. malaria, influenza, viral hepatitis or typhoid in the locality, then that cause must be thought of first.
iv. If the fever doesn't reduce within 3-4 days of antibiotic treatment, ask for routine investigations - i.e. Hb%, WBC, ESR, Widal Test, Urine and Chest X-ray.

PS. as you have seen your primary Doctor who has managed him symptomatically but may consult a Pathologist or an infectious disease specialist to know about the culprit behind the pathology, [i.e. was it viral, bacterial or parasitic infection] and then prescribe accordingly, till then:

- bed rest with small frequent feeds, soft diet, avoid chilies, spicy and oily food, maintain oral hygiene.
- wash hands properly [before eating, after using the washroom and after handling pets/waste].
- drink boiled water and properly cooked vegetables [avoid raw/ undercooked food and tap water]
- wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption.
- Add probiotic food [curd, sourdough bread] which will help maintain proper digestive function]
- take plenty of water, liquids, orolyte, black tea, overripe bananas, coconut water. As loose motions decrease take soft diet, soft rice, bread, toast, cornflakes, dry fruits, salads.
- Avoid aerated drinks, milk, chilies, deep fried foods.
