Hello, Thanks for the query.
When fever comes, it is usually either due to a viral or bacterial infection most often. Drugs like Ibugesic Plus (Ibuprofen + Paracetamol) are able o reduce the fever for about 6 to 8 hours. As the effect of the drugs wears out body temperature is bound to rise. That is why antipyretics are given 3 to 4 times a day. These drugs do not have any action on the cause of the disease. That is why fever tends to come back as the effect is less or medicine has been excreted from the body. SOmetimes if it is a bacterial infection then specific antibiotic is also needed, then only fever will be controlled. Secondly in fact fever is body's defence to fight infection. It need not be completely reduced. But we are generally worried about it.
As regards the dosage since the child weighs only 8.5 kgs, giving 1 tea spoon ful of Ibugesic plus is more than the recommended dose. In fact it should be given 1/2 tsf per dose 3 to 4 times a day. Also see that child is well hydrated. Giver oral rehydration solution about 300 to 400 ml during the day. Best is please consult your near by pediatrician. Thanks
