Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have full blown fibromyalgia. I ve had it for 21 years now. I just had major surgery, full knee replacement. It seems like the fibromyalgia has gotten worse now. What is the recovery time for my knee to heal with the fibromyalgia? I do therapy and workout at the YMCA but all that seems to do is make matters worse and exhaust me. My doctor wants my knee straight. Its getting there but not fst enough for my doctor. I can bend my knee ok it just isn t getting straight. Can you put any insight on this for me? And it seems like managing the fibromyalgia before the surgery was easier than it is now.
Fibromyalgia is not a fatal illness and so please dont panic. And more so Amitriptyline is a very good drug for fibromyalgia and symptoms improve a lot with even a low dose.
Infact it seems that along with fibromyalgia it seems your son has some personality disorder as well, probably borderline disorder. Such patients are very sensitive to rejection with suicidal tendencies and mood swings as well. Along with the Amitriptyline and some strong SSRI antidepressant like Fluoxetine or Escitalopram he will also require dialectical behavior therapy. This therapy over a few sessions will teach how to handle a stress/impulse and how to channelize it properly. Its taken up by a psychologist/psychiatrist and I would request you to speak to a psychiatrist about all these issues so that he can guide you and provide you with a prescription. I am not sure if his condition can be managed with just home based treatment. He will need support of medications. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
