General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. sorry to hear about suffering of your husband. If some thing goes into the windpipe automatically a strong cough impluse is started as a protective response of the body leading to expulsion of the foreign substance. It if does not occur then ask him to lie down supine and put sudden forceful pressure on the upper abdomen in the middle between the rib margins of both sides. This may help out. If it still does not work then you may need to visit ER and can have a bronchoscopy and direct removal. You may also consider to visit an ENT doctor to find out the pathalgy causing repeated occurance of this event and further management for prevention in future. Am hopeful these few words may help you. Wishing you and your family best of health.
Regards.
