Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband was eating and inhaled and a piece of food went on his windpipe he tried coughing but feels like it is still there the last time this happened we went to the er the dr said he aspirated on his copd and he got prednisone how can he get it out without going to the er every time this happens/
Hi. sorry to hear about suffering of your husband. If some thing goes into the windpipe automatically a strong cough impluse is started as a protective response of the body leading to expulsion of the foreign substance. It if does not occur then ask him to lie down supine and put sudden forceful pressure on the upper abdomen in the middle between the rib margins of both sides. This may help out. If it still does not work then you may need to visit ER and can have a bronchoscopy and direct removal. You may also consider to visit an ENT doctor to find out the pathalgy causing repeated occurance of this event and further management for prevention in future. Am hopeful these few words may help you. Wishing you and your family best of health. Regards.
