How Can Foot And Ankle Swelling With Soreness Be Treated?
my husband fell 10 ft off of a ladder 4 wks ago. As far as we can tell, he doesn t have any broken bones. Is a good sized lump on his shin bone that is tender on one spot on the side. Two days after the fall, his toes and ankle became black and blue and swollen. The bruising is gone, but the top of foot and ankle remain swollen and ankle is sore at times. He only missed one day of work(self employed carpenter)What can he do to help the swelling to go away. He can t wear shoes. Is this normal for a bone bruise!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
From description , this hard lump most probably formed due to haematoma formation (collection of blood) which might get fibrosed or calcified. It will take few weeks to months to get disappear. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination of swelling. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. Meanwhile give hot fomatation over it, You can take Tablet Motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily).
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
