Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I twisted my ankle and fell 2 days ago. Yesterday I assumed I had sprained my ankle because it was swollen with bruising below the bone, on the outside of the ankle. Today, there is bruising on the inside of the ankle, as well as some swelling and tenderness about 4 inches above the ankle. Is that common to have bruising on both sides of the ankle? Could the swelling and tenderness above the ankle be from wearing an ace bandage?
Ankle sprain means that there is injury to the ligaments in the ankle joint. The extent of injury can vary and this would affect the course of treatment.
Bandaging normally helps reduce swelling by applying a compression force.
It would be best to see a doctor for assessment to determine the extent of the injury and initiate appropriate treatment. Imaging of the joint with an x ray may be needed to rule out bony injury.
I hope this helps
