Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I live in Northern BC. I am battling tinea corporus that has not responded to the antifungal creams that were prescribed, nor has a heavy weeklong regimen of oral fluconazale helped. Is there anything at all that will kill this fungus or do I have to live with it? It's impossible to get timely and consistent care up here.
Hello, Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic! I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Tinea (ring worm) infection is quite hard to treat. You might require treatment for few months for complete remission. You have to take oral and topical antifungals for effective cure. Complete cure is possible, determination and strict compliance to drugs is essential. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get the following things done:- (1)- Topical antifungals are essential. As you are showing poor response with conventional creams, your doctor may go for newer drugs like ciclopirox. (2)- Oral antifungals is also needed. You can opt for terbinafine instead of fluconazole. (3)- Check your blood sugar level to rule out diabetes. (4)- Maintain good personal hygiene. You can surely cure the disease with proper treatment. Wishing yoi good health.
Regards. Dr.Shinas
