How Can Gallstones And Indigestion Be Treated?

I have gallstones and digestive problems, but no other real problem has been found to cause my bouts with diahrrea and of course I have gerds but no damage has been found. I have been taking voltarin for about 5 yrs for my arthritis which helps a great deal but my GI doctor told me to stop taking it, that it can cause some of my problems. I did stop for several weeks but I decided that I had rather have the digestive problems than the pain in all my joints and especially my back (sever scolicsis}. Other that this I am a very healthy 70 yr old female. but back to original question do I need to have the gallstones removed? Thank you for your time.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Gallstones are generally harmless compared to that of renal stones. They can cause repeated gallbladder infections in some. But as per the dictum if you are symptom free, most of the time its left as it is. Even if planning for a surgery, a simple laproscopic procedure would not do you any harm.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
