I recently had my first outbreak of genital herpes. I have not been sexually active for three years. About a month ago I had sex with my boyfriend. I was dry and got friction burn. Then just 10 days ago we had a night of sex. I had what I thought was another friction burn but this time it got worse and I got blisters very painful. I asked him I f he had herpes. He said not that I know of. I have never had any blisters or anything. So my question is: could I have had the virus in my body for three years and it didn t come out until I had sex again? Be
Dear patient. I understand your concerns about the herpes you have. the following points should be taken into consideration. 1- This might be an outbreak of a previous herpes that you have, and because you had sex sometimes the immune system becomes a bit weak and the herpes shows itself. However it can also be a primary infection meaning you might have got it from your boyfriend for the first time. sometimes primary infection is associated with blisters spreading in the whole genital area instead of a localised area only, can be associated with fever or inguinal lymph nodes enlargement. 2- the treatment of this condition is acyclovir 400 mg three times daily for 10 days. 3- a full STD panel for you and your boyfriend must be done including HIV hepatitis B and C and syphilis. Best regards
