Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello... I had genital warts December 2015 and was treated with podophylin but it really occurred three days ago, please what can be used to treat it internally to prevent the genital warts from me occurring again? Thanks in anticipation for your favourable response.
Hello, Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic! I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Genital warts are caused by HPV(Human Pappilloma Virus) infection. Many treatment options are available but recurrence is a problem.
You can try the following to prevent recurrence to a maximum level:- (1)- You can apply imiquimod cream after consulting your dermatologist. It stimulates your own immune system to suppress the HPV virus. You can apply imiquimod after podophyllin therapy or even after laser therapy. Also, you should stick with one or no sexual partners and use condoms and avoid orogenital sex. This can decrease the viral load to the perineal area. Quit smoking and have healthy diet to boost general health and immunity of your body.
Keep in mind that genital warts are contagious , so always use condoms and take HPV vaccine for your partner.
Hope I have answered your query. Wishing you good health. Regards.
Dr.Shinas
