How Can Gout Along With Depression And Fungal Skin Infection Be Treated?

I am a 51 yo white male. I have the following health issues that I am currently being treated for by medical specialists (Urologist, GP and dietician): Gout (treated with allopurinol) Kidney stones toe fungus fatigue depression (treated with Lexapro) fat around my mid-section I was wondering if these symptoms that are being treated independently of each other may collectively be related and need other treatment. Thoughts?

Hi,

I understand you have some questions about your overall health and how your different medical problems might be related to each other. First of all, gout and kidney stones can be related, gout is caused by high uric acid levels in your blood, and this can also contribute to kidney stones made up of urate crystals.

If you pass one of the kidney stones they may be able to examine it to see if this is the case. But regardless, you are on the right treatment for both, which is with Allopurinol to bring your uric acid levels down.

I don't see how toe fungus could be related to anything else, so I think that is a separate problem. I also don't see any relationship between fatigue/depression and your other medical problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
